Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited situations in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Oconee County Criminal History, you agree to these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies any result. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We keep an email message when needed to answer it. It remains within our organization unless the law requires disclosure to someone else.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers receive routine technical information when a page loads, including:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Visited pages and the time spent on them
  • Device category and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • The referring site, when one exists
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in aggregate, such as which pages receive visits and where sessions end. A browser can block cookies, though disabling them may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a search request to the selected partner
  • Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
  • Operating the site and maintaining page speed
  • Understanding which material visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Oconee County Criminal History publishes general directions to official custodians, including the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, local courts, SLED, and the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or dossiers about other people.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted through one of those tools is governed by that provider's privacy policy. Each provider controls its retention and sharing rules, so read the applicable policy before entering a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, court portals, South Carolina agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy terms apply. Review them before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may track activity across websites to select targeted ads. That processing occurs through their systems rather than ours.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks placing ads on the pages
  • Search partners processing a query submitted to their tool
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use standard safeguards for collected data. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Rights can vary with a visitor's location. In South Carolina, S.C. Code §30-2-50 restricts knowing use of personal information obtained from government for commercial solicitation, while the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code Title 30, Chapter 4, governs public records held by state and local bodies. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Object to certain forms of processing
  • Request deletion of your information
  • Ask to correct inaccurate information
  • Request a copy of information kept about you

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised. A changed version will appear here with an updated effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically.
